The aerostats, which are owned and operated by the Air Force, have not been maintained for a number of reasons. However, the Committee does not believe that an alternative means of supporting the operational needs for surveillance data has been deployed.

They must contract with the same maintenance crew that does the border fence.

This tethered blimp can reach an altitude of two miles. For that reason, the tether isn't made of metal—it is made of a special fabric!
