I think you're right. Regarding what will emerge, if the path we're on means that we'll need to water the liberty tree to make it grow, then I like the legend of Washington's prophecy.

I have read that the prophecy of George Washington's third vision of America was ruled invalid by Snopes, but it's one of those things that "feels right" when I read it.
