Deuternonomy 18:22 When a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not come about or come true, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.

Can’t recall chapter & verse but IIRC at some point false prophets could be executed for their trouble.

The Old Testament Prophets had to establish their credibility in the context of their own time; they had to call things correctly in the short term before people took them seriously on the long term, not to mention their supernatural connections with the Divine.

Yeshua (Jesus) did a lot of short term prophecy during his ministry, like the water to wine miracle and the boatload of unexpected fish.

How many of the YOu-Tube “prophets” on line have that kind of track record?

Let’s see them predict the weather or the stock market a month or two out with a modicum of accuracy before we take them seriously about the end of the world.

This “Sequester” scam is an old extortion racket that our former Governor Baldacci used here in Maine all the time. Unfortunately for us, it usually worked.
