A popular Harrisburg outdoors show that was postponed indefinitely because of a controversy over assault weapons will not be rescheduled this year.

The Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show had been scheduled to start Feb. 2 at the Farm Show Complex. But its ban on assault weapons in the wake of a Connecticut school shooting led to a backlash and vendor boycott. Organizers indefinitely postponed the event last month.

I’m hoping that this is the start of a trend and eventually ends up with the voters cancelling the careers of a WHOLE bunch of deserving politicians at all levels of government.

This should send a clear message to any politician who thinks they can ban ‘evil black rifles’ and high capacity magazines. If gun owners will do this to an otherwise popular firearms event, just imagine what they’ll do to such politicians at the ballot box.

They face an undeniable fact. Millions of people will turn out energized, voting on that single issue alone, while at the same time, politicians who vote to ban guns won’t have such support. It’s a no win situation for any politician that supports gun control. We saw it clearly in 1994 and the year 2000. It damn sure cost Al Gore the election.

I’ve come to think of it as a metaphor, rather than a simple backlash, it’s more like the MSM and the Politicians dumped a million gallons of bullshit onto a specific target, Guns and Gun owners. They are a “bit” surprised that it splashed onto more people than they thought it would. And now the justifiable anger, shock and soon to be rage is now rebounding back at them.

The Politicians and the MSM have for some time both lived in their ivory towers with multiple bridges connecting them. They look down on the people both pretend to speak to and for. Every now and then the truth seeps out and the people are reminded again of the old poker saying: “If you are at the table playing poker and you can’t spot the patsy, then you ARE the patsy.”

“An Agriculture Department spokeswoman tells the Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era that officials hope to hold a show of similar size in February 2014. Dauphin County commissioners have allocated a tourism grant to try to make that happen.”

from link in the article concerning financing the show:

http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2013/02/eastern_sports_and_outdoor_sho_7.html

The cancellation of the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show cost the Harrisburg region an estimated $80 million.

That won’t happen again next year.

The Dauphin County Commissioners allocated a $58,000 tourism grant Wednesday to book the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in 2014 for the 10 days traditionally associated with the outdoor show.

Commissioner Jeff Haste said they have been meeting with the Hershey Harrisburg Regional Visitors Bureau to develop plans for a sports and outdoor show next month.

Haste said they hope to make an announcement within a month.

Reed Exhibitions indefinitely postponed the show — which is billed as the largest of its kind in North America — after hundreds of vendors threatened to boycott because Reed banned the sale and display of assault weapons at this year’s event.

The show, which was to run from Feb. 2 to 10, brought thousands of visitors to the region each day. It filled hotels, kept restaurants busy and helped businesses make it through what is traditionally a lean time on the calendar.

If Reed does not want to continue the show, Haste said, another organization could be brought in. If need be, the show could be renamed, Haste said.

“The key is there will be a show,” Haste said.

The $58,000 — part of $1.4 million in tourism grants the Commissioners awarded Wednesday — was going to be used to pay for shuttle service for show attendees this year, Haste said. The tourism grants are funded with the county’s hotel tax.

Cool...looking forward to the 'First Annual Eastern Sports, Outdoor, and Assault Weapons Extravaganza!' That should send the left into a tizzy of epic proportions...

They said they would have a show next year, even if they had to rename the event. They don’t plan on including guns. But they sure want to spend the tax revenue to promote tourism.

Problem is, government planned events do not draw crowds.

Burfeaucrats are idiots who are detached from reality.

Commie Dems deny that reality exists.

Must be Dem Commissioners, they think we have an unlimited public treasury.

Someone close to this area needs to forward this comment to the State Government level and see if they can freeze the funny money.

Do you think that the idiots will learn anything from their stupid ban on certain weapons and magazine size?

My guess is that millions of dollars were lost and that should get someones attention.
