I always get ticked off when I see the Surgeon General or the Postmaster General referred to as a “General”, as though it were a military rank. It is not a rank, it is a description of the job, in the same manager as the head of a business operation might be a General Manager, as opposed to the other managers and assistant managers. Can you imagine the General Manager of a Walmart being referred to as “General”?
