Military brass marching to Obama’s beat [Benedict Arnold(s)?]
The Washington Times ^ | February 28, 2013 | Rowan Scarborough

The military leadership is proving to be a solid ally of President Obama in political Washington, adopting his social revolution and willing to serve as backdrops to the White House's campaign-style drive to win the budget battle with Republicans.

The armed forces have launched an unrelenting lobbying effort on Capitol Hill with a flood of briefing charts to defense staffers. They show the damage that automatic budget cuts called "sequestration" would do to the troops -- and to jobs in congressional districts. The charts coincide with the White House push to blame congressional Republicans for the spending cuts, which begin Friday.

The fates of the military chiefs and the president are more closely tied than ever.

"If there is a single constant in the norm of civilian control, it is that the military instinctively submits," said Ken Allard, a retired Army officer and columnist. "But they also recognize that presidents get exactly the kind of military advice they deserve. And he is ultimately responsible for failure or success."

Mr. Obama has won them over on the social front, too.

The Joint Chiefs have applauded opening ranks to gays. They now are searching for ways to implement Mr. Obama's other landmark decision -- lifting a ban on women serving in direct combat jobs, the infantry and special operations.

When the White House complained about supposed anti-Muslim training in the ranks, Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, put into motion investigations that led to the firing of a decorated Army officer as a staff college teacher.

Political realists

Although the top brass have avoided appearing at Obama budget events, military aviators served as a backdrop Tuesday when the commander in chief landed at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va., on his way to a Newport News shipyard

I think Benedict Arnold had a similar conundrum - loyalty to the King or to freedom loving patriots.

Sounds like our military "politicians" might be a little too anxious to ignore little things like the U.S. Constitution, posse comitatus, lawful orders, etc.

They had better remember that our politicians work for the American citizens and that the Constitution is the law of the land.

To ignore the Constitution would be very foolish.

I was an AF officer; an AF Academy grad, Strategic Air Command Aircraft Commander. I remember raising my right hand and swearing...swearing...to defend my country from all enemies, foreign and domestic.

Seems our military is now run by pu**ies. I’d tell them to their faces, and I was commissioned in 1977. I wouldn’t piss on ‘em if they were on fire.

It’s a shame that our military leadership has become so gooshy under decades of incrementalism from the pushers of feminism/romanticism. That shows in our general civilian society, too, though, in business, academia and politics. It’s the cause of the current economic decline, too.

Have fun. Enjoy the slide.

Thanks for your service, sir! I, too, took the same oath, and I’ve yet to renounce it. I’m afraid the oath now, like the U.S. Constitution, is considered too old fashioned.

I was what the Army Times labled a, "quitting Captain," (mid-careerist) who resigned my commission in disgust during the Clinton administration.

I almost wish I would have stuck it out so I could have resigned my commission in disgust during the Obama administration.

I too was a “lifer”. These leaders, and their types many years ago when I served for 22 years, were one of the reasons I left the service. Stand up guys only go so far.
Ass kissers go further. I’d tell’em that and they didn’t take kindly!

Just like any other Banana Republic leader, Obama is replacing the top military brass with supporters of his revolution. Castro, Ortega, Noriega, and Chavez all love Obama.

Their best bet is to go along until Obama issues truly unlawful orders that threaten the citizenry of the country or unduly give in to an enemy (such as not stopping an attack on CONUS).

The JCS are a gang of bedwetters, especially the Chairman. I don't think there's much doubt about the military being used against American civilians. They're just waiting for 0bama (through Upchuck Hagel, of course) to give the order.

And one of Castro’s most loyal followers and “lieutenants” in the Cuban Marxixit revolution was Che Guevera. He was such a loyal believer in the revolution that he earned the title of “Castro’s executioner.”

I wonder who will earn the title of Obama’s executioner?

What you must remember is that in the Federal military or any professional military for that matter the men are appointed and assigned by the political powers that be.
To refuse in even the sliest way is grounds for dismissal or transfer. To put it quite simply The Federal military will not rebel against the men who hold the power to dismiss, transfer, remove, or otherwise command them. They can’t, and as such they are incapable of upholding the Federal constitution when ordered to do otherwise.

They can only resign (thus joining the victims), or act covertly to subvert. (Presuming there is some form of resistance to aid with such information or efforts)

No one is required to obey an illegal order. Just because an order comes through the chain of command does not necessarily make it a legal order. Of course, with the general staff we have now there’s virtually no chance of any pushback against the CinC. They see their duty as protecting their pensions, not the Constitution.

Now this makes sense. Political leaders are no more inclined to pick Military officials that might stand up to them to uphold the Constitution than they are inclined to pick Federal Judges.

Folks disobey illegal orders the same way Federal courts uphold unauthorized laws. They simply choose to refuse to acknowledged the fact that it is illegal. As former military brats might tell you, noble folks willing to keep thir oaths rather than simply kiss ass don’t make it up the ranks.

This is of course for good reason, the same reason Federal judges tend not to uphold the Federal Constitution either. Their both appointed by Federal politicians, almost none of whom like to have their power questioned, limited, or challenged.
