Obama signs order for "sequester" budget cuts

Matt Spetainick

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama on Friday signed an order that starts putting into effect across-the-board budget cuts known as the "sequester" after he and congressional leaders failed to find an alternative budget plan.

The White House released a copy of Obama's directive entitled "Sequestration Order for Fiscal Year 2013." Government agencies will now begin to hack a total of $85 billion from their budgets between Saturday and October 1.

If they can’t tax ‘em ? then they are enemies of the state.

Charts are deceptive though, many government departments are exempt, so others are cut more. Department of Defense is taking most of the pain, and they have already been dealing with budget cuts/downsizing. Of course Obama doesn’t mind gutting our military. The defense taking much of the burden was part of his plan to get Republicans to cave. I hope Republicans hold firm, but I do sympathize with those in DOD and government contractors supporting military. Once again they are asked to sacrifice.

Of course it was his solution, quickest way to gut the military.

If that was my only option, I would just go home. Frankly, that is looking better every day.

Can’t save all of it. Food, gas, vehicle insurance and utilities comprise about half the cost. Most of that is duplicated costs that I’m already covering for my home in Idaho. Eliminating commuting, CA vehicle insurance, rent, utilities, lower food costs, lower taxes are all benefits of simply going home.

85 Billion out of how many trillion in deficit spending? Over how many years? The little boy is putting a Popsicle stick in the dike, and the Popsicle is not only melting, but facing the wrong way. Australia and Israel. Also New Zealand. Buy tickets.

It’s not even 85 Billion. The fiscal year ends in October and we’re already in March. It’s half over. We’re talking 44 Billion, about 23 Billion in defense and 21 in domestic. That’s all that can be cut between now and October without further congressional authorization. Obama and the Democrats and their press pimps are a bunch of drama queens.

The sequester is NOT ENOUGH at 2.4%. We need DEEPER CUTS.

Also, it only targets about 30% of the budget. We spend 65% of our budget on entitlement programs like Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security.

These entitlement programs need massive cuts if we are ever going to have a chance to balance the budget, then start paying off our massive $16B debt.

The defense contractors around the world who may be out of a job do not share your enthusiasm.

The government workers I work with are just going to be working 4 days a week, but at least they are employed. My company has not told me what is going to happen to me. My company’s whole contract could be canceled, then I’ll be out in the bread lines like everyone else.

They should stop paying Congress until this is resolved.
