Senators aren't God. They can't pass legislation that limits gun violence.
They can only pass legislation that takes guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens.
The people most likely to commit "gun violence" will still have theirs.
Actually they can. But effective laws have zip to do with gun ownership/registration/background checks. EFFECTIVE things include "three strikes laws", boosted sentencing for commission of a crime if a gun is involved, and actually enforcing the existing gun laws. Most "gun crime" cases these days are plea-bargained away by DA's.

Senators are debating the pros and cons of adding more daylight to each day.....Most agree but the Bat and other nocturnal species lobby have made a strong case for themselves citing undue hardship should they act on it...
the legislation has since been tabled for further study and a Committee has been formed to study the matter in depth...
