The tax you pay on a gallon of gas will rise by 3.5 cents in California come July 1.
The state Board of Equalization voted 3-2 on Thursday to increase the excise tax about 10 percent, from 36 cents per gallon to 39.5 cents per gallon.
The increase is partly due to a $157 million shortfall in gas-tax revenue in fiscal 2012, and also a projection of less consumption by California drivers.

A January study by the American Petroleum Institute listed California's gas taxes as second highest in the nation behind New York. After the July 1 tax increase, however, the 70.1 cents average tax per gallon will lead the nation.

Which is reason #346,890 that almost everyone with two functioning brain cells is looking at moving to Texas.
With our record high gas prices, it just wouldn’t have occurred to me that the action to take as the people’s elected representative, would be to raise the price more.
The twits are focused on keeping the gravy train of tax revenues flowing with no thought for why they are reduced.
Ummmmmmmmm. So why do they need a board to decide this if all they have to consider is whether or not the tax revenue has remained "consistent"?
In Needles California last November I drove past a Valero station and choked on my coffee: $5.299/gallon, for REGULAR!
The station was closed, I wonder why...
Those douchebags are already reaping a windfall on gas since SALES tax is also applied to it. if you’re in a 10% county, sales tax is actually higher than excise...
The State of Washington wants a ten cents a gallon increase. With a 37.5 cents a gallon gas tax, an additional ten cents a gallon will make Washington State the fourth highest gas tax behind Connecticut that has a 48.6 cents a gallon tax. Currently California is taxing gasoline at 48.6 cents a gallon. A 3.6 cents a gallon increase in California, will make it the highest taxed state (above New York’s 49 cent/gallon) in the United States.
With the California at the level of taxation and regulation it imposes on its citizens, the only people able to survive will be Hollywood and those engaged in illegal activities.
If we use less gas they will raise the taxes on gas. "Progressives" are frauds form their first breath.
We have already planned to move to Arizona by around May of this year. This is just ONE MORE REASON to get the H3LL out and STAY OUT!

Have revenues ever matched projections for tax increases?
Moving to Texas. That sucks.
I saw what they did when they all packed up and moved to Colorado in the early 80’s.

Here’s what the country club Democrats in California need. Good roads to their favorite restaurants. Everybody off their beaches. Fewer cars on their roads. Somebody to weed the garden and clean their pool. Airports for their private jets. Fewer people on their golf courses and tennis courts.
California has royalty, and they want the middle class to eat their cake someplace else.
..we are just about to the point out here where the whole thing collapses like one of the twin towers—with no one to clean up the rubble...
Which is reason #1 that Texas is getting crowded with liberals. They may be smart enough to leave CA, but they're still a liberal that wants to foist their ideas on others. Also #1 why Oregon is the way it is (northern migration).
***I drove past a Valero station and choked on my coffee: $5.299/gallon, for REGULAR!***
And to think, eleven years ago it was still below $2.50 a gallon there.
Anything Baraq and Moonbeam can do to get you out of your carbon emitting resource guzzling private transportation is considered a victory for Gaia.
You’ll be riding your bicycle to the rail station, just like a good European. (And given your largely temperate climate, not freezing your @ss on the way).
Because gas prices in California just aren’t high enough.
