Never let it be said that President Obama has failed to spend time with Republican leaders in seeking an alternative to automatic budget cuts that are due to hit most federal departments Friday. On Wednesday, for example, the president gave GOP lawmakers as much as seven minutes, a rare face-to-face encounter that the White House described as a meeting.
The White Houses characterization of this momentary huddle at the Capitol as a meeting illuminates Mr. Obamas strategy in dealing with Republicans on the budget cuts and other fiscal deadlines.
With speeches and other staged events, the president has tried to build public pressure for his agenda of tax increases coupled with spending cuts.
But he has made little time for negotiating directly with lawmakers who oppose his plans.
It is a sincere conviction among Republicans that the presidents negotiating posture isnt about getting a deal done, its a zero-sum political game where his aim is to destroy the Republican [House] majority in the next election, said Steve Schmidt, a Republican strategist who served in 2008 as Sen. John McCains presidential campaign manager. Its certainly not an effective strategy for a leader in search of a deal.

Jus' dreamin'...
I am sure that the ‘pubs have worn their kneepads to the meeting. They will stand like a tower of Jello.
I am surprised he gave them seven whole minutes....after all the point was he is now able to say “ I meet with the republicans”
His lapdog Media will report he tried....but they did not want to capitulate.... Err....I mean compromise..

Does it matter for how long the ‘meeting’ lasted?
Obama is NOT OPEN to anything other than what he wanted.
The End.
Mr. Obamas motorcade arrived at the Capitol at 10:57 a.m. for the dedication of a statue of civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks. The ceremony began at 11:04 a.m. Somewhere in between, White House spokesman Jay Carney said, the president held a brief meeting on the budget cuts with Speaker John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican, and Mr. McConnell.
Pressed by reporters about the substance of a meeting that lasted less time than the average persons morning shower, Mr. Carney conceded that the president mainly discussed his anticipation of a Friday meeting at the White House with congressional leaders.
The Repubs are right. Obama got his tax increase....guess he forgot. Now he wants more??
Seven Minutes? SEVEN MINUTES?
WOW!!!
That is exactly eight minutes longer than I would meet with that bunch of Surrender Monkeys.
I am not sure if Obama channels Stalin or Hitler. Either way, living was tough. I guess I will decide when I see if the masses are dying from shots to the back of the head, or being tossed into a furnace.
What financial nightmare? The 1% cut in the baseline increase of spending this year? You’ve fallen into the Obama trap if you think this is a financial nightmare.
The Republicans have everything to win, and nothing to lose if they stand firm on the sequester.
Yeah, Yeah, I know... They will cave any minute.
What exactly is the point of Obummer running around the country scaremongering? I mean, the reps and congcritters are already elected. Shouldn’t it be THEM that he has to twist arms? It’s as they say, he loves to campaign, and I don’t even consider it campaigning, it’s pure and simple propagandizing.
GeeOpie — Shouldn’t the quotes be around ‘leaders’?
R.I.N.O.s
Looks like the anointed One is a big fan of Agile/Scrum. But this would mean the meetings would be daily.
The seven minute meeting will never be publicized as being that brief. The whole purpose of the camapigner in chief was to create a staged meeting to use as anoter “photo op moment”. How may of the liberal media will report it for that purpose and brief duration? Crickets.........
