As if we dont already pay enough for gas in California, come this summer we may be taxed on it even more by the state.
The tax Californians pay for each gallon of gas they buy called the excise tax is expected to increase 3.5 cents per gallon in July to 39.5 cents per gallon. The state Board of Equalization - charged with setting the rate since 2010 - will meet Tuesday in Culver City to consider about a 10 percent increase because previous tax collections fell short of budgeted amounts. The excise tax isnt the only one we pay at the pump. The state also charges 2.25 percent in sales tax, and the federal government charges 18.4 cents per gallon in excise tax.

Bush's fault.
Agenda 21 is all about restricting people’s movement and their freedom to roam. High has prices helps accomplish that.
Absolutely. Clearly they don’t mind gouging everyone more.
Boy! Does that sound like a government agency right out of Atlas Shrugged' or what?
Don’t forget the sales tax (8% in San Diego
County and higher in other counties)that is applied on the exise tax. Yes, we pay taxes on taxes. When gasoline prices go up the sales tax revenue to the state goes up. We are paying about 70 cents of taxes on every gallon of gasoline in California. The brain dead voters here blame it all on the evil oil companies.
so just buy enough gas to get over the state line, then fill`er up as you proceed to a new home.
I do a lot of shopping in SD to avoid the 9% sales tax where I live in El Cajon. I can't always do that as the tax rate for larger purchases is based on your address. I paid an extra $200 in taxes on my car. That in addition to the sales tax already paid simply because I live in EC.
What? Proposition 30 didn’t work?
The only time I really noticed the sales tax difference was on books from Borders at Fletcher Parkway vs Mission Valley. That's no longer an issue.
One way or another the gov is going to get their money.
They cried for us to get hybrids and electric cars. Now they cry they aren’t making the money they want.
So, they bump up the tax. Kinda negates the ‘save money’ argument to buy a hybrid.
The rest of us, who not only have brains but occasionally use them, are obviously mistaken.
Should have added the previous ‘rat legislature here in NC passed automatic tax increases tied to the price of gas. Price goes up, tax goes up.
Smart, huh?
I purchased a 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid. Promised tax rebate: $3000, actual: $1202. Promised mileage: 32, actual: 21-28 depending on weather and driving. Winter mpg in Idaho runs 21 MPG. Spring/Fall 28 MPG. Summer 26 MPG. Only one time during the life of the car did it achieve 32 MPG. That was a very mild 72 degrees ambient and not traffic from San Diego to Pocatello. Suffice to say, I never saved as much money on gas and rebate as I spent for the hybrid.
Enjoy it California. Why not raise gas taxes a buck a gallon. Consider it raising the state of California’s minimum wage. Trying to Detroit yourselves to death? Geez.
