There are some psychiatrists (far and few between) that are of a more natural (holistic) bent. They are not prescribing the heavy drugs once thought the "only" way to aid with bipolar and schizophrenia symptoms.

And while prayer alone (barring a miracle) may not heal the suffering, it sure doesn't hurt to storm the heavens, as prayer is the only "pill" that provides true peace. That being said, St. Dymphna is a good saint to request prayers from. :)
