By 1900, the wealth generated by “Maple Leaf Rag” permitted John Stark to pull up stakes in Sedalia and move to St. Louis, where he founded a music publishing company. Scott Joplin followed and got married.

Three pieces written in the interim were published in 1901.

Joplin: “Peacherine Rag”

”Augustan Club Waltz”

”The Easy Winners”

I should note on a personal basis that some of these numbers make me nostalgic for an era I never saw. Strange, isn’t it?
