For
Scott Joplin, 1910 was the year of Treemonisha. He only produced one rag, a real gem. He instructs the pianist to stamp his left foot twice in each bar, but gives no instruction as to how loud the stamping should be. Joshua Rifkin gives each stamp of his foot a different quality, making his left foot just as much a participant as his ten fingers. Watch how he handles the C theme. Its a bravura performance.
