I hadn't hear about Zawahiri's brother having anything to do with it before. Do you have link for that? I did know about Sheikh Khalid Abdullah.

Clips from the film were first aired on Egyptian TV just 3-4 days before Sept. 11th by a hardline 'tele-Islamist.'

He really had little or no effect on the crowds that did show up to protest.

Interviews on the streets of Cairo. 'Video' had nothing to do with protests and attack.

Ah, that's what I am talking about: the existance of the video was known to the islamists days before the western press knew about it - the press wasn't even sure which video the US embassy was talking about at first. I wonder if the clips the tele-islamist aired were downloaded from the internet link everyone else saw as-is, or if the tele-Islamist was the one who doctored and posted it in the first place, perhaps to signal a select number of other imams around the world in some way that the plan was in motion, etc, without letting anyone else know it was going to be a multi-continental riot.

Anyway, I didn't say the video had been seen by the bulk of the protesters because it had what, fewer than 100 views on it when we found out about it? It didn't need to be seen by the lowly protesters- in the Middle east, average joe-schmoe protesters don't really show up for anything we do in the west, they show up because during the Friday prayers their imam tells them to show up, so they are all ready to go to the protest after worshipping based on what he told them, real or imaginary, not on anything they have actually seen for themselves. All that is needed is to incite a few of one's fellow imams.

What I am saying is that the video may have been nothing more than an explanation given by the leaders of the protest to justify an action - in Islam revenge is the only acceptable violence, so in order to start a fight the islamists have to create an offense to avenge, if one isn't already available. They [or perhaps their western advisors] also know Americans wouldn't be moved by their passionate desire to release the blind sheikh, so the video may have been brought up so muslims could play the victim card, and to rail against free speech, which was the meme of the past few months before Benghazi.

So when our embassy tweeter went on and on apologizing for the video it must have made the leaders of the protest laugh at the stupidity of the US state department because the US embassy reaction made the US look silly and weak and pathetic, which is great for recruiting more jihadists. It was a win-win- distract the US long enough to smack their compound and recruit, recruit, recruit.

Thanks for that Egyptian tele-islamist link, that’s just what I was hunting for and couldn’t find it.

Here's one link ; I don't know what his source is yet :

(snip)....Timing: The assaults came exactly on the eleventh anniversary of bin Laden’s and al-Qaeda’s attack on America. If there was any doubt about the intent of the timing, the appearance of black al-Qaedist flags among the mobs removed it. The chanting of Osama bin Laden’s name made it doubly clear who were the heroes of the Egyptian mob. Why should we be surprised by the lackluster response of the Egyptian and Libyan “authorities” to protect diplomatic sanctuaries, given the nature of the “governments” in both countries? One of the Egyptian demonstration’s organizers was Mohamed al-Zawahiri, the brother of the top deputy to Osama bin Laden, and a planner of the 9/11 attacks, which were led by Mohamed Atta, an Egyptian citizen....(/snip)----------------- Storming Embassies, Killing Ambassadors, and ‘Smart’ Diplomacy (Victor Davis Hanson), National Review Online ^ | September 12, 2012 | Victor Davis Hanson Posted on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 2:57:54 PM by neverdem
