“Also, it was good to be reminded of those Hollywood stars who didn’t swim with the currents of folly: Reagan, Bogie and Bacall, Kelly, Davis, et. al....”

.
Not to denegrate the above mentioned Hollywood stars, but the consequences of swimming “against the currents of folly” were not as severe in the 30’s and 40’s as what they are today.

Would Reagan, Bogie and others be as courageous then if their conduct had jeopardized their very lives like Salman Rushdie’s is today and Theo van Gogh’s life was snuffed out right on a street in Amsterdam because of their critical views of Islam?

I don’t know if the two sets of historical circumstances are comparable-—both Hollywood AND the Federal Government were
permeated with Commies AND commie sympathizers and helpers to the Soviet worldview-—not enough time has elapsed to determine whether whatever is left of “Hollywood” could fall under the “sway” of the demands of Radical Islam beyond the temporary wishy-washiness and recessive PC that a lot of them buy into. And then of course, we still do have notable films
like Zero Dark Thirty, which puts it all out there without having to make a political pitch one way or another.
I could go on and on, but it’s a vexing proposition you’ve put forth. Bogie, Bacall & Co. were directly responding to
the official investigations into the Industry and the deceit of many in Hollywood-—the Agenda of the Left in Hollywood was there for all to see, especially for “insiders”. Unlikely that, as I said, “whatever’s left of Hollywood” could ever so completely get aboard the “Islam is Wonderful, and misunderstood” bandwagon-—instead you have Obama acolytes like George Clooney making halfassed historical investigations like the Edward R. Murrow film, guerrilla documentarians like Michael Moore doing one-off propaganda pieces (like ALL of his films), and ideologically-driven wiseguys like Oliver Stone, which generally serve up bits and pieces of the Progressive Agenda in their usual hamhanded, flamboyant, over-the-top way.
