They also tend to be a tremendous financial burden to the cities they are held in. The ‘Bird’s nest’ stadium from the 2008 Beijing Olympics is now abandoned, and I don’t think that Greece has fully recovered from the 2004 Olympics. History will probably show the Olympics as being mostly a 20th century thing, from 1896 to 2020

Or, they could just drop all the wasteful pomp and - you know - make it about the sports again. Drop the “inclusion” bullcrap and only let the BEST athletes compete - that would also cut down on the massive expense.
