What a day, the Pope gives his notice and NK detonates a nuke.

The Norks want a nuclear weapon. They have everything needed to make one so why try to get away with using ANFO?

The DPRK has been working on a nuclear weapon since at least the 1980s.

John Bachelor is reporting that it’s 11x more powerful than the last one they set off.

S. Korean Defense Ministry now says that the yield is 6~7 kilotons, while another report said that it was about 10 kilotons. So the yield estimate ranges from a third to a half of Hiroshima nuke.

UN Security Council confirmed for this issue for tomorrow US time at 0900 EST local sharp (11 p.m. Seoul/Tokyo/Pyongyang time tonight).

Wonder if they will write a stern letter. Wonder what the Russkiyes will say or do?

Japan says they are going ahead probably with their own set of sanctions, but then again, how effective can *that* be?

If the last one was 3 kilotons, this would be 33?

Time for a covert operation to create another Ryongchon Explosion, hopefully to vaporize the Fat Boy and his entourage. That would be the best course of action, but would anybody do it?

Otherwise, there would be arms race in E. Asia. Both S. Korea and Japan will move to acquire strategic weapons such as nuke and long-range(or medium range) missiles.

That would be bad for both U.S. arms control sector and China's PLA. However, the way they are ignoring, waffling, and condoning(in case of China,) things will go out of control soon. Either they take out surgically upper leadership of NK regime now, or serious strategic domino's would be falling.

Currently the consensus is that the yield ranges from 6 to 10 kilotons.

Can’t they just accidentally set one off in Pyongyang and put them all out of their misery.

I guess we can expect another angry letter telling the NK’s that they are very very cross with them and that they cannot come to the party.

Times like this I wish John Bolton had a job at the U.N. and Cheney was at the White House. By now Iran would have been bunkerbusted to death and North Korea would have had some mysterious “accidents”.

With Obama in charge nothing will happen. Let this be another notice to Bi-bi in Israel...get it done because come July or August Iran will be ready to roll.

Let’s give Hillary Clinton a round of applause everybody. She flew so many miles! Ugh...what a job she had! Let’s look at the winning record from her:

Benghazi, Arab Spring failure, Egypt, Sudan, Syria, Iran getting nukes, North Korea nukes, Afghanistan is almost back in the full time terror business, Venezuela is allowing Russians and Cubans and Iran to use bases there.

WRITING IS ON THE WALL!!!

Ay, amigo, not a good day for the good guys. And tonight Obama I, absolute ruler of the United States, decrees his further pleasure as an object of our trembling compliance.

That’s the game they are playing.

We had this discussion about the Paki nukes and Dr. Death a couple of years ago .... when it looked like the Taliban might knock over the Islamabad gov't. ....

One of our Aussie FReepers called China's game "the borrowed knife game". The Chicoms are the source of this technology that's getting spread around Asia and dangled in front of raggie terrorists.

The UN and White House are both typing their strongly worded responses as we speak. Of course there will be talk of added sanctions and international isolation (as though they can be in worse shape economically and isolation wise than they already are).

I have an idea, though, and I’m pretty sure it hasn’t been tried. Offer them aid like food and fertilizer in exchange for them ceasing their missile and nuclear program. I think their missile and nuclear program will cease over night. ;)
