Sources: Obama to issue cybersecurity order on Wednesday

The White House is poised to release a cybersecurity executive order on Wednesday, two people familiar with the matter told The Hill.

The highly anticipated directive from President Obama is expected to be released at an event Wednesday morning at the U.S. Department of Commerce, where senior administration officials will provide an update about cybersecurity policy.

The White House began crafting the executive order after Congress failed to pass cybersecurity legislation last year. Officials said the threat facing the United States was too great for the administration to ignore.

My bet is that he will give himself through DHS new powers to shutdown websites deemed a “threat” to national security including this one. Take down talk radio with a new FCC “fairness doctrine” and muzzle Fox News and he will have complete control of the media and an end to free speech in the USA.

The executive order would establish a voluntary program where companies operating critical infrastructure would elect to meet cybersecurity best practices and standards crafted, in part, by the government. It has been revised several times over the past few months.

Voluntary? LMAO! At some point they'll mandate that anyone who isn't part of the program is in violation of some committee finding or something asinine, and their Internet connectivity will be throttled or shut down altogether.

This is the beginning of the implementation of an American "Great Firewall" akin to what the Chinese have. Only "approved entities" will be allowed to present media through the Internet.

I'm thinking this might create a new cottage industry: the resurrection of the telephonic BBS!

There are a TON of out-of-work telecom geeks who know how to setup a PBX from a mound of copper and some basic switching components. There's also HAM radio, which has been used more often recently for Internet-like packet communications.

And this “much anticipated” directive comes from a quota baby who’s never held a real job, and to whom the operation of a lever is a mystery?

Bwahahahahahahah!

I can’t believe that this EO would restrict access to the internet or in anyway deter anyone from freely expressing political dissent or dissent of any kind.

I think that all of this talk is counterproductive and un-American.

Obama will never cutof...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Maybe there’s an easy way for a visitor to archive “all there is” on this site occasionally. The administrators likely save nightly backups anyway.

‘To get onto The Nut-job Conspiracy Theory Ping List you must threaten to report me to the Mods if I don’t add you to the list... ‘

Sure, and by threatening to report you to the mods, I am sure that this can be viewed as a cyber threat and all of my vital information will be recorded in a super-secure database only accessible by cyber-security personnel or 28yo
white males living in their mothers basement who have never had a date in their life or still think that getting to second base is a baseball term.

I will be in my bed late at night when the silent black helicopters begin to approach my compound. Men in Black will descend ropes and after rendering my power non-existent, assasins will enter my bedroom in an attempt to render me a cyber-threat no more.

Oh God, I think that I hear the helicopters outside my window now!!!

Not only are many of Obama’s executive orders constitutionally indefensible, such actions needing the legislative support of Congress, but consider the following.

Given that closing down Internet will prevent consumers from making online purchases, I wonder how much the actual implementation of this power grab might hurt the economy?

Name one action the guy has taken the doesn't aid our enemies, hurt our friends, or damage the country.

Take your time...
