“...Dont tell Obama that the job is open....”
No, job application says for “Pope” with a letter “P”...
Not a “D”.
He’s already got THAT part covered, no worries.
He doesn’t strike me as the kind of man who leave the succession of such an important leadership spot to the whims of chance.
Probably spent days or weeks in prayer asking for guidance from the Lord.
To my mind, he’s already probably made it clear who he wants, and has probably put wheels in motion to make it so. He’s an extremely intelligent, good, decent man.
“..Malichi Martin...”
I read Fr. Malachi Martin’s book “Hostage To The Devil” some years ago. Very chilling and disturbing. Shook me up quite a bit.
“...Such people on here might be surprised to learn the only people who hate us just as much are rage filled progressives....”
And did it ever occur to anyone that a lot of the “child molesting” accusations might in fact be smear tactics from the “rage filled Progressives” - the sworn enemy of the Catholic Church and the Christian world in general - designed to bring about shame, distrust, and hatred of Catholics and diminish the influence of the Church on society?
It’s what they do. They’re masters of it.
I’m sure there have been some priests that were justifiably accused of it. I’m not naive to believe that those things didn’t happen. And they should be removed and prosecuted.
But this Pope is a good man, and he set about going after any and all who tried to cover that up.
“...THIS job, you dont quit. You dont quit...”
Although I agree with you brother, someone upthread suggested the possibility of the onset of dementia - maybe an Alzheimer’s-like condition, or Loewy-Body Syndrome.
If that’s so, and he made the decision to not continue in that diminished capacity, it’s probably the right move.
My immediate gut instinct is that this is probably the case.
Having lived through a family member go through that hell of losing all memory and recognition, I can only imagine what is going through his mind right now, if that indeed is the case.
I hope that is not what is happening...it’s terrible.

Keep trying to minimize the rape of children. Maybe you will convince yourself one day.
Holy rolling much?
It isn’t “Holy rolling”, it’s more like “Holy trolling”....
You’re right, I stand corrected! (Will use the correction in the future!)
I hold the radical view that priests should not rape children and their superiors should not cover up for them.
We suspect that your “radical view” has a lot to do with your 19th century (20th?) sect’s “theology” and pedophilia has nothing to do with it!
wow you must be psychic - what is my “sect”?
It's name doesn't matter, what matters is that it defines itself proudly by its anti-Catholicism!
OK,Here is a link to a website. This man “Ronald L. Conte Jr.”was the only person that I know of to predict the person and name he would take as a Pope way before John Paul 11 passed away..He predicts for the next Pope “ Cardinal Arinze as Pope Pius XIII”.I in no way endorse this site and say to be careful with his other stuff. But he nailed Pope Benedict.

It’s=Its, idjit!
Well, if Catholicism = sex with children, you called it!
enjoy your eternity in HELL!
Thanks for remembering! I’m on my way out, but I’m going to bookmark the link for when I get back.
God bless
I am sure Popes in the past have gone crazy, become physically sick and disabled and with much less available in the medical field, they still held the line.......I believe one of the greatest benefits was the example they gave.....an example that even though the could quit, they continued on, inspite of the pain......relying on what humans have relied on for thousands of centuries, family.
His family of Cardinals and Priest, is a family that has always cared for the Pope. Has the Papal Family broken down? IDK but sometimes you have to have faith in your side, and you hold the position till you die. Well we shall see if more info comes out. Have a good Fat Tuesday.
I agree. But I think you are missing my point.
My point is that these guys are not like you and me.
They understood that when you took the job, you did not put down the mitre and walk away.
I actually envy him, if this is the truth. How many of us would hang it up and walk away if we had the means to do so?
And really....why the swipe at me?
I was not making fun, nor was I being disrespectful.
You should really watch that.
And for the record, both of my parents were pretty active at that age, so I expect nothing less.
WTF is wrong with you people?
nice talk on a religion thread.
I didn’t really think I was taking a swipe at you, just making a statement... I guess I can see where it might appear that way. Sorry.
I just think at 85, the number of reasons to resign are many, and the Pope hasn’t been looking very well lately.
Two others insulting me without any provocation is appropriate on a religion thread? And I am the one that gets the comment?
You too hold examine the log in your own eye.

The way he approached the original Lutheran/Catholic talks, the disappointment with the destruction of the JDDF document by Vatican appendix, and then the recent decision to talk to the more conservative synods while acknowledging that would make some things more difficult.
That and if you read some of his books, he cites Lutheran theologians more frequently that any Catholic writer, let alone Pope, has before. He seems to have an appreciation of the concerns of orthodox Lutherans that is different that most. For one thing, he has in the past made an effort to understand what we truly believe, as opposed to the various black legends in most Catholic apologetics.

“...sometimes you have to have faith in your side, and you hold the position till you die...”
I hear you loud and clear, brother. Either way, I’m hoping he’s OK. He’s one of the Good Guys. It is a stunning development and not one I’d have ever expected.
You win. I was wrong.
Please forgive me.
I hate people like you.
lol
and then vermont: I was not making fun, nor was I being disrespectful.
Well, Vermont, a wiser choice of words would have been better instead of a sentence attempting to compare him to a Soviet leader...so, yes, your statement was a provocation.
Have you never heard of anyone besides Soviet leaders resigning due to ill health?
and you as well....sorry for the delayed response I dont get in as often as I’d like!
