When our country granted amnesty to 2 million illegal immigrants in the late 1980s, the deal was that exercise would solve the illegal immigration problem once and for all! We would close our borders and have no more illegal immigration.
But, instead, we kept the floodgates open. As a result, we now have at least 20 million illegal immigrants in our country; they were motivated by the open floodgates and the promise of citizenship without the necessity to "wait in line." Is this how our lawmakers operate in connection with our immigration laws?
Why do we even have laws and a process for legal immigration? All that does is get people worked up because they actually foolishly followed the law. They watch those who jumped the line be rewarded.
Are we again going to keep the floodgates open? Or just keep forgetting about those silly immigration laws and make sure we take care of the children?
That was only part of the deal. The deal Reagan made was that the illegals in the country at the time would be granted amnesty and citizenship in exchange for sealing the border. Reagan kept his part of the deal. The Democrats did not keep their part of the deal which was to close the border.
So, how surprised are you?
