horse meat tastes just fine...it is the psycological thing that keeps most people from wanting it....
In my travels I have had both horsemeat and donkey,the former served as steak, the latter in a sort of fried sandwich, like a stuffed pita, and also grilled with onions and green peppers.
Both are delicious. The donkey is a little fattier where the horse is very lean, but I don’t know if that is just from the cut, or is true in general. I could see horse being inherently leaner, just like deer and elk are.
The emotional attachment to horses - especially in the states - is the issue. But wasting the meat, especially for an animal that has been well fed its whole life, IS a waste.
I knew a friend in the country where I ate the donkey meat. Her mother raised chickens, but every once in a while she would get attached to one and give it a name. She killed the others for food and to sell, but pampered the named ones until they passed, then buried them.
People - what are you gonna do with ‘em...
