LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
Police said one of three men believed to have broken into a west Las Vegas home was killed after a homeowner opened fire at the group.
Las Vegas Metro police reported the incident in the 2300 block of Westwind Road, near Jones Boulevard and W. Sahara Avenue, about 7:48 a.m. Monday.
According to police, the homeowner, a recent victim of burglary, called 911 about several men forcing their way into his home.
The resident retreated to a bedroom where he retrieved a handgun, police said.
The homeowner fired at least one round at the suspects, prompting them to flee, according to Metro.
Police said one of the suspects, who was identified as a Latino male, was found with a gunshot wound and died at the scene.
"When police officers cleared the victim's backyard, they found a third individual deceased in the backyard from an apparent gunshot wound," Metro Officer Bill Cassell said.

Seems his handgun was up to the task. I wonder what it was? First call 911, then call 1911.
Nice shot. A shame he did not get to unload a few more rounds at the other vermin.
With a only a 40 cent cartridge he saved the taxpayers about a million dollars in legal maneuvering, welfare, food stamps, free medical, etc., etc., etc.
Not only that, but the 2 surviving suspects now have serious deterrence that they did not have before this 40 cent encounter. Literally, lots of bang for the buck.
Three guys breaking in. Who was that idiot from New York that advocated private citizens didn’t need more than three rounds? Was it Nadler? Putz.
