The biggest donors in the Republican Party are financing a new group to recruit seasoned candidates and protect Senate incumbents from challenges by far-right conservatives and Tea Party enthusiasts who Republican leaders worry could complicate the party’s efforts to win control of the Senate.

The Conservative Victory Project, which is backed by Karl Rove and his allies who built American Crossroads into the largest Republican super PAC of the 2012 election cycle, will start by intensely vetting prospective contenders for Congressional races to try to weed out candidates who are seen as too flawed to win general elections.

You wrote: “Didn’t you read it? Why is Rove’s SuperPac leadership courting the enemy at the NY Times?”

You were right, I had not read the article.

I am concerned about the left perpetrating a strategy to divide conservatives and republicans, because I know that they make deliberate efforts to do so - and I am still stinging badly from having to watch the disaster of Obama’s re-election unfold, largely due to successful suppression of republican turnout.

Nonetheless, in this case I believe that you are right to be concerned about Rove and his PAC - they are the ones being divisive. The more I hear about it, the more it turns my stomach.

Isn’t there some constructive work that could be found for Rove, like maybe attacking leftists, doing some party-building/coalition-building, or running an ongoing issue advocacy campaign?

I would not be surprised to find that the purpose of “advertising” in the NY Times, is to encourage donations from lefties who want to weaken their competition by promoting fratricide and mushier candidates.

The thing about Rove is that his consulting and advertising fee gravy train is leaving the station and this is his last chance to rob his PAC donors blind. For Rove, it’s all about money, not principles.
