Alabama has taken the crown previously held by Mississippi as the most conservative state in the union, according to a new Gallup poll. Last year the top four were Mississippi, Utah, and Wyoming, with Alabama coming in fourth. Overall, Americans in 2012 remained more likely to identify as conservative (38%) than as moderate (36%) or as liberal (23%), although liberals have gained 2 percentage points compared to 2011.
On the liberal side, the medalists have gotten stronger. Washington DC, Massachusetts, and Oregon, the 2011 liberal top three, retain their titles...Residents of Washington DC are more liberal

I see the usual bashing of southerners going on in the comments, as usual...I have a simple question: Why are so many ‘blue staters’ moving to the south? (I don’t say ‘Yankees’ anymore since people are coming from California, as well...)

I showed up in S. MS for the AF in 1986. Grew up in Rochester NY. Still in S. MS and glad to be here after 26+ years.
This proves the GOP strategy of running moderates and stuffing conservatives in the closet is sound /s

If you removed Atlanta from Georgia it probably would be the most conservative state.
If all of Florida South of Orlando was cut off and drifted away, Florida might just be the most conservative.

Most are from 2008, and i do not know of any from the 1990s except states (including District of Columbia) with the highest concentrations of homosexual households (2000)
