I’ve read David Kupelian’s books. He’s a terrific analyst who really understands issues at the level of first principles.

I have five (out of six) sons and a daughter in Scouting. We’ve been leaders and volunteers for 15 years. I’m so distressed by this that I feel physically sick. I don’t know what we’ll do if the Board betrays everything they claim to stand for.

Obviously, it’s not going to become a Folsom Street Fair overnight, but how can we participate in and support an organization that so blatantly abandons its principles ... ultimately for nothing, as Mr. Kupelian points out, because the attacks won’t stop, they’ll just get worse.

Go to BSA web site and submit a letter - I did:

Hello,

I am writing in absolute disgust to hear that the BSA is actually considering reversing its ban on homosexual leaders enlisting and stands against homosexual behavior. Are you out of your minds? This decision will be catastrophic if it is allowed to be implemented. I have two boys in the cub scouts currently, and one them (may) become a boy scout this year. We were starting to decide on a local troop for him, but if this policy goes through, my decision will be an easy one. Absolutely no way will I ever allow my sons to be at risk on camping trips and scouting activities, knowing that potential predators are now welcome to serve as their leaders. I was already a bit uncomfortable with the fact that he would be on trips without my supervision. But this will make it impossible to approve. As we have seen with the recent Church scandals, there is no one you can completely trust with your young boys. But to actually invite this into your organization, is irresponsible and dangerous! It will be the end of the Boy Scouts and certainly the end of mine and my sons’ involvement and contributions. So very sad to hear this and I hope and pray that this will not happen. The BSA is one fo the last holdouts for moral decency in America. A place where boys learn to be moral men, which our country so desperately needs more of in these troubling times. To sacrifice our beliefs and truth for political and/or financial gain is in itself morally reprehensible. Please consider the repercussions that will surely come with proposed policy change. I do not want to pull my boys out of scouting anytime soon, but this leaves me absolutely no choice.

You know, I don’t think Scouting has abandoned us, their executive committee is making the decision. I have talked to BSA employees and they are sick about this. When two people can convince the board to change the policies of a 100+ year organization, something is wrong.

Homosexuals fantasize about the Boy Scouts.

This move, even as a consideration, was stupid.

19 ... but how can we participate in and support an organization that so blatantly abandons its principles ...

1. Don't despair. We can fight back.

2. Work through you local council executive board. They are volunteers. The council pros are compromised because their allegiance is to BSA national.

3. Get all of your volunteer Scouter buddies together and press you case with your local council (volunteer) president. He is the chairman of the council executive board of directors. Demand the resignations of Brock, Stephenson, and Turley.

4. Make it plain that you will stop your FoS (Friends of Scouting) donations and participating in the Trails End Popcorn sales. These fundraisers impact the local councils most - not national. But national will hear about it.

5. Know who your enemy is in your local district - the churches which charter scout units AND support homosexual inclusion. Those churches are (1) TEC, (2) ELCA, (3) PCUSA, (4) UCC, (5) Unitarian/Universalist, (6) Moravian, and (7) DoC-The Christian Church. The UMC is a special case - they are in the midst of an internal struggle on the issue of homosexuality. Just look out for those UMC churches which espouse "social justice" and have a female pastor.

6. Transfer your scouts out of the units in these churches to other units.
