Texas is in the southwest, not the south.

Depends on who you listen to - Texas is sometimes referred to as south-central as well. It's certainly big enough to be both, and the key part of either description is the word "south".

I've always thought of I-35 as the unofficial east-west boundary, which sort of fits with the old saying that Dallas is where the East ends, and Fort Worth is where the West begins.

and SC, GA, and AL are in the southeast, not the south.
