NYC was a cesspool when he was Mayor. People seem to forget. He may have been outspoken and supported Israel but he did nothing for NY at the time it was corrupt and dirty and racial tension was ramped. I'm sure he was a good man but he was a shitty Mayor.

He was drafted into the United States Army in 1943 where he served as an infantryman with the 104th Infantry Division, landing in Cherbourg, France in September 1944. He earned two Battle Stars as a combat infantryman. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1946.

RIP Mr. Mayor. Another of the greatest generation has met the final Roll Call.
