“After hearing that, I don’t trust any building in Mexico City to stand up very long if there is any kind of outside stress.”

The buildings from the Spanish colonial period always stand up well :-)

If the explosion was in the basement, doesn’t that resemble the similar (first) attack on the Twin Towers?

(Of course, Mexico’s government, being smarter than ours, will probably deny it. If terrorism doesn’t get news coverage, then it loses its usefulness.)

14 Saudis, not 19. I think one of the hijackers was a Jordanian. The Saudis were the “muscle” whom bin Laden laughed about in his post 9/11 video saying they weren’t let in on the totality of the attack until the end. The non-Saudis were the pilots, and knew exactly what the finale was going to be. One pilot was a Lebanese guy educated in a Catholic school in Beirut named Ziad Jarrah, who was very close to his great uncle, an Abu Nidal operative. Abu Nidal’s organization was hosted at various times by Libya and Iraq. He hit one of the WTC towers. Another was an Egyptian who took flight training, a Shehhi. His father lives in Cairo, Egypt.

The other tower was struck by pilot Mohammed Atta, the Egyptian who was the overall leader of the 9/11 hijackers. Atta was also a member of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, same as the current al Qaeda leader Ayman al Zawahiri, an Egyptian eye doctor. This means both Atta and AQ’s current leader had ties to Iran. Atta was recruited by a Syrian-born German citizen named Mohammed Zammar.

The world trade center was also scouted in advance by a Syrian Ghasoub Ghayoun a few years prior to the attack, along with other landmarks, and the scout sent the resulting videotapes to al Qaeda in Afghanistan.

Oh, and Ayman al Zawahiri has a brother in Egypt named Mohammed al Zawahiri who organized the mobbing of our embassy in cairo and is linked to the leader of the attack on our ambassador in Benghazi, Libya.

Need I mention, for example, Abedin, Huma?

Huma Abedin's father was born in India and educated in Pennsylvania. Her mother was born in what is now called Pakistan and she teaches in Saudi Arabia.

The family is not very "Saudi."

They are about as Saudi as Obama is “Illinoisan.” They moved to Saudi Arabia in 1977 where he founded IMMA which has offices in Jeddah and London before he died in 1993 same year as the wtc bombing. Abedin’s mom, meanwhile, founded a women’s college.

I stand corrected.

My fundamental point, however, remains valid. There is an extraordinary level of Saudi influence in Washington, generally, and in this administration, particularly.

“Have they reported it’s definitely not terrorism yet?”

I think they reported that an independent artist made a movie/video that caused a spontaneous outburst from a crowd carrying high explosives.

IIRC, the earthquake was in 1985 and another problem (besides lousy construction) was the ground - not stable, but filled in old lakebed.

Sediments that are water-wet (down at the water table) are subject to "ground liquefaction" during pronounced shakings, such as was documented during the 2011 Japan earthquake and tsunami. Buildings can (and did, in the 1985 Mexico City quake) suddenly sink two and three stories deep into liquefied ground, killing occupants of the lower floors in seconds.

More to my last .... that's the other kind of underground infiltration and seepage that can get you killed.

So you are saying the Saudis were not masterminds but useful idiots?

Neither is a good thing.
