As far as I’m concerned she acted out of childish stupidity.

Who give a sh!t WHY she did it? What she did was ruin the lives of those she falsely accused. She committed a criminal act with real consequences to others and she should pay

Or to put it another way, suppose I'm late for church and run s stop sign and injure you. I have a good motivation. Should I NOT be held liable for the injuries?

Personally I think she should face criminal charges and face the same sentence as those she accused faced if they were found guilty. She should be rotting in jail. A $400k civil judgment is nothing compared to the potential consequencs for her victims.

I agree almost 100%. Sure, she was young and stupid and probably “put up to it” by others, but she committed a horrific crime. She should have done time in juvenile hall.

As to the money, I agree it is appropriate. Frankly I am surprised she wasn’t advised to declare bankruptcy decades ago, listing these (Pagones’s and others) debts to be discharged. (Perhaps they couldn’t be, as the perjury was a willful tort as opposed to negligent? Dunno.)
