Israel must remove all Jewish settlers from occupied West Bank
Digital Journal ^ | 1-31-2013 | Anne Sewell

A report emanating from a UN human rights inquiry has called on Israel to remove all Jewish settlers from the West Bank and to immediately cease expansion. According to the report, the settlements violate international law and are merely an attempt to drive out Palestinians through intimidation.

The report comes from an inquiry led by French judge Christine Chanet and was based on interviews with 50 Palestinians, describing land grabs, violence, and damages to livelihood, and reads, "Israel must, in compliance with article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, cease all settlement activities without preconditions.”

The report further states that Israel must immediately begin the withdrawal of all settlers from the occupied Palestinian territories (OPT).

Digital Journal reported on Wednesday that Israel was boycotting the UN human rights scrutiny forum in Geneva. On top of this, Israel has not co-operated with a probe which was set up by the Human Rights Council last March to examine the impact of settlements in the territory, including East Jerusalem.

Its always okay for Jews (or even non-Muslims) to be ethnically cleansed from supposed Islamic areas. But if Muslims are even criticized in any way, its a great crime.

Vatican and Israel Edge Closer to An Agreement
La Stampa-Vatican Insider ^ | Andrea Tornielli - 01/30/2013

snip

"The Bilateral Permanent Working Commission between the Holy See and the State of Israel held a plenary session in Jerusalem yesterday “to continue negotiations pursuant to the Fundamental Agreement Art 10 paragraph 2,” the statement reads. The Commission discussed the life, activities and tax regime of the Catholic Church. The text being studied does not touch on thorny issues such as territorial questions: the Vatican’s stance with regard to East Jerusalem and the occupied territories remains unchanged and the problems regarding ecclesiastical properties in that part of the Holy City and in the West Bank were deliberately set aside. Yesterday’s meeting was presided over by the delegations’ heads: the Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Ayalon for Israel and the Under-Secretary of the Secretariat of State Mgr. Ettore Balestrero for the Vatican.

The statement confirms, as all previous statements did, that negotiations took place in an “an open, friendly and constructive atmosphere.” The Commission “took notice that significant progress was made and looks forward to a speedy conclusion of the Agreement.” Israel and the Vatican “have agreed on future steps and to hold the next plenary meeting in June 2013 at Vatican City.” The hope is that the agreement defining the Catholic Church’s status in Israel will be signed by this date and should resolve the contentious issue of twenty holy sites Israel is home to. The agreement would exempt religious institutions from taxes, just as synagogues and mosques are but not properties that produce revenue.

There will soon come a day when the Israelis will entirely settle the whole land from the Euphrates to Egypt, and there will be absolutely no danger from any direction for 1000 years.
