The first time I was ever “arrested” was by DNR officers. They sat in their truck at the marina and watched as my brother and I unloaded our canoe and put it in the water. Yes, canoe. Once we got in the canoe and paddled out into the river, they left the truck, got into a DNR boat, hauled ass over to us, and arrested me because we didn’t have proper flotation devices in the canoe.

Since I was in the back of the canoe, I was considered “Captain of the vessel”, and I was, I swear to God, handcuffed, and taken in a DNR vehicle to the sheriffs office where I was “booked”, fingerprinted, photographed, and placed in a jail cell. I had to call my mom to come get me and pay the 50 dollar fine.

DNR don’t play. Them boys is some serious “Law EnFORCEment” ...

Naturally, the whole experience shaped the utmost respect I hold for “Law EnFORCEment” officers to this day.

Please don’t recommend releasing raccoons. They often carry rabies and it is illegal to release them.

Also speaking as someone who used to live in an area with “few people”, it’s distressing dumped and possibly rabid animals near our families and livestock.

I agree about drowning. These animals should be killed in a more ethical way.

I have a great solution!

Move Indiana’s DNR folks down to the border with Mexico; and send the INS folks up here!

Please don’t recommend releasing raccoons.

There's a Nature Area near my home where I release my caught raccoons back into 'nature'.

The varmit’s have eaten my chickens and ducks; but I still won’t kill them for doing so.

The NA also gets any skunks, possums or ground hogs that wander into my traps.

Just another in a long line of government tyranny and abuses. Our ancestors would be shooting by now.

“Incidents like these are why I don’t fly the American flag or celebrate ‘Independence Day’ anymore. They used to symbolize freedom. This is not a free country anymore.”

Exactly, my friend!

Raccoons are one of the top vectors for rabies. Releasing them into the country has spread this disease into every county and by default sentenced many other wildlife to death by a gruesome disease.

Releasing them into the country....

I am NOT raising baby raccoons, infecting them, and then turning them loose!

These varmits are alREADY 'in the country' when I catch them.

I do NOT test them for rabies.

If I catch one that is foaming at the mouth I WILL kill it.

All I am doing is a bit of relocation of them.

The RABIES!! menace is EXACTLY the same as if I'd not caught them in the first place.

FWIW - I'm located in that little blue dot in the middle of Indiana.
