“Pure” is a red herring; you’re better than that.

You're right, I am better than that. Hence my parenthesis noting that pure is undefined.

That said I'll take a sixty seat majority GOP Senate with Brown and a Kirk-clone. You'll never get to sixty with just conservatives. We're going to have to use the RINOs to get our country back.

We can win on budget, spending and tax issues with RINOs. We can also win on immigration, abortion and gun control if we operate out of reality. That means compromise in the right direction, over and over again, incrementally moving toward our goals by holding the Congress for a generation or two. Just like liberals/Democrats did.

Your points have merit. Force the liberals (for example) to justify why abortion must be available through all nine months of pregnancy in all 50 states - regardless of each state's demographic leanings. Paste them as the rigid, recalcitrant extremists. There's something to be said for that.

I keep coming back, though, to the stark ideological contrast and how we can use that. California is bankrupt. Illinois is our "Greece". I think that is movement in the right direction because it demonstrates, for the world to see, the consequences. It inclines families in the purple states to consider whether they - in Iowa and Missouri - should be forced to bail out their deep blue counterparts.

To that end, our message ought to be not one of weakness, not one of compromise, but one of extolling the failure of socialist ideology by lifting up the failing states as real-world examples for all to see. Hence, "let them fail."
