It's a classic MSM tactic: delegitimize opposition to a liberal proposal. Suggest that there can be no principled objections, only base motives.
Take the current proposals on "the pathway to citizenship"AKA amnestybeing floated. On today's Morning Joe, Politico co-founder and executive editor Jim VandeHei proclaimed that it was probably "the right thing to do," but fretted that it would be easy to "demagogue."

Deportation is the right thing to do. . . . . We’ll never do that.
Sure...just like gun control, third-term abortions, teaching gay sex in the first grade, etc., are ALL the right thing to do.
We need immigrants that are able to come to this country to enhance the country, not degrade it.
We don't need more welfare dependents. We should have a restriction on new immigrants receiving free services for a limited period of time (5 years?).
Once the border is sealed we should immediately deport all the prisoners in our jails to help with costs of processing new immigration applicants. All current welfare roles should be cleared of illegals.
How very "progressive".
Somehow I do not believe "progressives" will extend to me a similar ethical obligation.
Just like gun control is the wrong thing to do, but easy to demagogue?
10-20m people disobey the law for 10+ years costing the country hundreds of billions of dollars... and the attitude is that they shouldn’t be punished and/or ejected from the country, but pandered to
ok.
check.
so... if 10-20m people decided not to pay taxes for the next 4 years, resulting in the exact same societal usage pattern as illegal immigrants, do you think they would be looking for ways to allow us to continue living in the country without any penalties?
Worse it is not just laws that some of the millions and millions are breaking..
You can bet that none of these "undocumented, in-the-shadows victims of xenophobic America" will be counted as law breakers. I wonder what it will take for "immigration reform" to consider an act in violation of law -- and actually do something about it?!
To whomever favors "immigration reform": Please explain:
I guess I should look at it from the perspective of Obama, McCain, et al.
We are not limited to being like Europe with respect to economics alone. We can be like them in many ways. For example,
No-Go Zones for Non-Muslims Multiplying All Over Europe
"Hispanic controlled zone. No English . . . ."
I doubt any of the naturalized US Citizens I know who entered this country legally, put their lives on hold for close to a decade, waited patiently for bureaucrats to endlessly shuffle their paperwork, and shelled out thousands in legal fees, would agree that amnesty for illegals is “the right thing to do”.
Demonizing opposition to the amnesty of illegals is right out of Lenin’s playbook; no surprise, then, that it’s trumpeted by Obama’s minions.
And what other crimes will be over-looked? Not paying taxes, paid under the table, driving w/out a license, w/out insurance, stiffing the local ER, identity theft, etc.?
How long until they get the bennies ‘legally’??
Boy, where do I sign up?!
Obama plans to use non-white solidarity to force whites into an electoral minority and impose a punitive confiscation state on the former white majority.
It's nothing but racial revenge, and the end game is the abolition of the America that he hates.
Which is nothing more then racism.
Amnesty putting Americans to work, how’s that for progressive logic?.
