... we have always understood that when times change, so must we; ...fidelity to our founding principles requires new responses to new challenges: ...preserving our individual freedoms ultimately requires collective action. ...New Labour trick of claiming that something can only be safeguarded by embracing its opposite: individual freedom requires submitting to the collective will. ...we can afford to support both the old and the young...our country cannot succeed when a shrinking few do very well and a growing many barely make it. ...Warning to America: it didnt work out. Obama made no attempt to explain how support at both these ends of the age range was going to be afforded. ...American government is now in the redistribution and welfare-provision business...at variance with the founding fathers conception of a nation that is inherently opposed to state interference and domination over the individual.

Janet Daley is great!
Bon voyage!
the two party oligarchy politicians are like the bears in a national park , no fear of humans so they do whatever they want
She may be a great author, but she has to watch the headlines her editors create. “On the brink of a sea change” isn’t even metaphorical enough to be mixed. It makes me literally sea-sick.
We do not have a Democracy, never have. The founders understood Democracies only lasted until the electorate found that they could vote themselves the treasury.

Mr. Franklin (leaving the Constitutional Convention)
A woman asked:
What have you given us?
Franklin is said to have replied:
A republic, if you can keep it.
I’ve thought for some time that we are seeing the process of the Federal Government increasingly becoming irrelevant. Like any drug addict, it has fallen to the point where all of its actions are designed to serve its addictions, and all around it suffer. It lies, cheats, and steals to feed its urges.
The next phase will see clever and determined state governments find ways to subvert and ignore federal law. The endgame will come when states forbid businesses from withholding federal taxes, to make them truly “voluntary”, while also forbidding the IRS to enforce collection within their borders.
Like any addict near the end, especially one so powerful as this, it’s not going to be pretty. Unlimited power (and the power to print money) are more dangerous drugs than all the crack and ecstasy in the world.
The ball is in state governments’ court. Let’s watch and help.
