You’ve hit one of the key issues in this disaster, auto insurance/liablity. What criteria do the issuing companies have for one being a US citizen in order to get insurance?
Does applying for insurance and not being a legal US citizen make the insurance policy null and void?
Will an insurance company have to pay off on an accident caused by an illegal with an Illinois driver’s license? What happens if the illegal flees the state or country after having caused an accident or killing someone?
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE POLICY BEING IMPLEMENTED TO COVER THE COST OF DAMAGES, INJURIES AND/OR DEATH?
If the insurance companies say “NO” to providing such coverage to illegals, they might turn the Illinois driver’s licence law on its head.
Now leftwing companies like PROGRESSIVE and GEICO might issue such policies, but what if the victims of illegal driver’s who have caused accidents sue these companies for criminally negligent behavior in issuing these policies in the first place, knowing that the buyer is an illegal?
The thoughts of tort actions here make me wish I was a slip and fall lawyer. I’d be rich beyond my wildest dreams suing the state, the driver, and the insurance companies.

In Texas you have to show proof of insurance when you renew your tags and have your vehicle inspected but lots of people just let their insurance lapse right after that and then don’t get new insurance until the next year rolls around. From the looks of some cars that have current stickers, also suspect there are places you can get your stickers without your car passing inspection. Police used to take cars off the street if the inspection, tags and insurance weren’t current but they can’t do that any more.
