Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin (D) on Sunday revealed key details about a bipartisan immigration-reform plan, saying the legislation would be comprehensive and would include a pathway to citizenship.
Durbin said the group of six senators was working on a comprehensive approach to the issue, as opposed to moving individual elements piecemeal and was optimistic they were close to their goal.
Sitting in these meetings with three Democrats and three Republicans, working on this immigration issue has been as encouraging as the rules vote on Thursday night, Durbin said on Fox News Sunday, referencing a bipartisan agreement in the Senate last week to tweak the filibuster rules.
We are trying to work our way through some very difficult issues but we are committed to working on a comprehensive approach to finally in this country have an immigration law we can live with, he added.
Durbin's group is expected to outline their proposals later this week.
His comments are the latest encouraging news for advocates of immigration reform.
Last week, Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) voiced confidence in the prospects for immigration reform in the House, saying that a bipartisan group of lawmakers basically [has] an agreement after more than three years of secret talks.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who is working in the group on immigration reform, has also been quietly building conservative support on the issue.
Rubio in the past supported a piecemeal approach, however. And while Rubio has openly discussed a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants, he has included strict caveats.
Rubio would grant temporary legal status to those who passed background checks, underwent fingerprinting, demonstrated English skills, and could prove having an extended residence in the country. These newly legalized immigrants could apply for permanent residency leading to citizenship but would not receive any expedited consideration. They would have to apply through the same channels as aspiring immigrants outside the nations borders.
Rubios purported plan received an important endorsement from Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) last week.
President Obama is also preparing to launch a major push for comprehensive immigration reform with a speech in Las Vegas next week, where he is expected to outline his proposals.
Unless, it includes border control, it is counter productive.
The “Republican” side of this bipartisan committee is represented by McCain, Graham, and Flake - all long time supporters of amnesty.
Remember, it was the McCain-Kennedy Amnesty Act of 2007 (with support from see-you-at-the-signing Bush and Rove)
that turned people against the Republican Establishment and caused millions of 2004 Bush voters to stay home in 2008.
You seem to be under the incorrect presumption the laws that are passed are for the betterment of the Citizens of these United States and following the Rule of Law and equal enforcement.
Boy, I can’t wait to hear the talking heads when the GOPe (again) comes out of the backroom, pulling up it’s pants and/or taking off the knee pads in their strained emotional toning “We did the best we could...”
Before Reagens amnesty the republicans received 38& of the hispanic vote. After Amnesty they received 37%. We are watching the slow suicide of the republican party and conservatism as 20,000,000 hispanics are added to the voting roles as democrat. And dont ever buy the bullshit that they are naturally conservative. They didn’t come here for the constitution and liberty that came here for the money.....

Anytime a politician says the word “comprehensive” he should be slapped. When they say comprehensive they mean incomprehensible . It will be stuffed full of so much stuff you will not even start to understand it.
Everyone needs to see the Friday evening Hannity Special, BOOMTOWN. I don’t know whether it will be replayed today on FOX, but if you want to know who the super rich are and where they get their money and why nothing gets done in Washington D.C., find this video and watch it..Go to this site and scroll down until you find “Meet Washington’s new Aristocracy, the
Lobbyists and Welcome to BOOMTOWN: Washington, D.C.” This should make any American citizen furious.
Border control has to come first otherwise we will be overwhelmed with people rushing the borders.

Yep. And it's also much more difficult to track the implementation of (and violations of) comprehensive legislation- which is why bureaucrats love it.
In time, all the things that are promised to idiot Repubs who vote for such a thing will be left by the wayside, and whatever the leftists want, they will get.
The wall won't get built- the Dems will suddenly claim (after spending with wild abandon all these years) that we don't have the money, and demagogue away about how Repubs want to increase deficits with this; the "rigorous fees" that illegals will supposedly have to pay to become citizens will be replaced with hardship waivers as La Raza and litigation attorneys claim there is widespread "discrimination" preventing illegals from getting jobs to pay the fees, etc, etc.
How many times do Republicans have to play the fool?...
As long as the path requires the illegal to return home, apply from home, and wait at home until a decision is made.
True and if you can’t send service work off shore bring in the illegals.
Flat line pay scales and get more votes it’s two for one act.
We have no statesmen we money launders.
We had this debate a few years ago...
The talking heads and morally corrupt officials in DC promised border control and no path to citizenship.
Yet, here we are AGAIN. It’s time to put the heat on ALL elected officials, State and Federal, to:
1. SECURE THE BORDERS
2. DEPORT ALL ILLEGALS, WHEREVER FOUND
3. CUT OFF ALL AID TO THESE ILLEGALS, ALL OF IT
4. SEND THEM TO THEIR HOME COUNTRY, NO EXCEPTIONS.
This socialism is the ultimate goal of all democrat politicians , it is their religion. The news reporters too. So everything they do is to advance this failed ideology
Bet the A$$ho1e wont close the southern border first.
