***”... in order to preserve the event’s historical focus on the hunting and fishing traditions enjoyed by American families,”****

Does anyone remember the storm over the use of modern designed muzzle loading rifles during muzzle loading season?

The claim was that the season was opened to allow “Traditional Style Muzzle Loading rifles” and not the new fangeled muzzle loaders.

Same storm with modern sports rifles. Looks non traditional, is non traditional.

BUNK.

During the “Primitive Weapons” part of the Mississippi deer season we are allowed to use single shot exposed hammer rifles made on pre 1900 patents that will fire metallic cartridges of .38 cal. or larger. I use a Handi-Rifle Buffalo Classic 45/70 govt.

And i’ve always thought it’s kind of funny that muzzle loader hunts allow modern muzzle loaders, with modern scopes, with very modern capabilities except for follow up shots.
But if you showed up with an original iron sighted Sharps from circa 1870, firing black power cartridges, you’d be in violation.
