(Former Prez) Sarkozy's plans 'to dodge new 75% French tax rate by moving to London

Suddenly a handshake from David Cameron probably seems an awful lot more inviting. Former president Nicolas Sarkozy could become the next wealthy Frenchman to flee to Britain over his country’s looming tax hikes on the rich. Mr Sarkozy – who famously snubbed the Prime Minister’s attempt to shake his hand after Mr Cameron vetoed changes to the EU treaty in 2011 – is reportedly planning to move to London to set up a £800million investment fund. The 57-year-old, who was ousted from office last June, has amassed a fortune from £150,000-an-hour public speaking engagements and is now said to be trying to raise capital from investors. If the move goes ahead, the controversial Frenchman will become the latest to escape a potential top tax rate of 75 per cent in his home country.

He and his former supermodel third wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy would be likely to settle in an affluent district like South Kensington – so becoming the most high profile Gallic celebrity couple in the city.

How bad is it in a country for a former President to defect?

An elitist Euro socialist hypocrite who waxes on and on about centrally planned “civil society” and other post-modern Marxist niceities and then grabs the gold and makes a run for the border when his turn to pay up comes.

I guess retreat might just be a sound strategy in this case. So does this prove the stereotype, or does it just make him look smarter?

England isn’t exactly a tax haven so for Sarkozy to be fleeing their for refuge demonstrates just how bad things are in France. What ever happened to Europe’s favourite tax haven, Monaco?

Well, that depends. I'd love to see Carter, Clinton, etc., defect, and officially walk the walk of their treasonous talk and actions.

England isn’t exactly a tax haven...

I'm going back about a decade or so, but the UK did have tax laws favorable to foreigners. A number of high earners in France took advantage of it.

If I were a high earning Brit, I would have been upset that the lack of equal protection...

Maybe Sarkozy could meet up with Berlusconi and Cameron at a fashionable estate and have bunga-bunga parties.

The First Clod is a supermodel. Get with the program! She has toned shoulders too. And a wig.

This is just a rumor! The trash tabloid says the “inside info” was obtained from documents and computer files seized inside Sarko and Carla’s home in Paris, in a police raid one month after he left the Élysée palace.

How nice to live in a country where there is no due process, and unwarranted search and seizure of a private citizen’s private home is permitted.

Thanks Cincinna. Nice, a police raid after he’s out of power, we’ve seen the future, and it doesn’t work any better than when a Kennedy relation said it about the USSR.

I'm still surprises that Depardieu accepted Putin's offer. I thought he was going to move to London.

Seems to me that moving to Russia is like going to a Roach Motel..."you check in, but you don't check out.."
