The Bay Fair BART Station in San Leandro was shut down for more than five hours Saturday after a midday shooting killed a man and wounded a woman, authorities said.

The deceased victim, described only as a 40-year-old black man, died at the scene of the 12:20 p.m. shooting at the bus stop outside the station, BART officials said. The station was shut down at 12:50 p.m. while authorities collected evidence and searched for suspects. The station did not completely reopen until after 7 p.m. The second shooting victim was rushed to a nearby hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

One suspect has been detained and three others are being sought, said BART police Lt. Steve Coontz.

Robbery does not appear to be a motive in the shooting, Glenn-Davis said, declining to elaborate. Multiple rounds were fired at the scene. she said.

Conspicuous by its absence is the (obligatory editorial phrase) "gun violence."

Note the race of the victim.

I don’t know if this is a California thing but whenever there is ANY mortality, the shut down everything (entire train stations, whole sections of freeways, etc.) inconveniencing thousands. Then there are hours of Officials Standing Talking to Each Other with their hands on their chins.

There is NEVER a sense of urgency as in “we gotta get this done and get this thing open as soon as possible!” The contempt for the public is palpable.

“Note the race of the victim.”

But nothing about the race of the suspect.

I don’t know if this is a California thing...

Perhaps not a "California thing" but in the particular area in question, it's pretty much quick blurb on the evening news before America's Got Talent comes on. It's "important" now though because of the current political gun debate.

San Francisco is a VERY VIOLENT city (along with its surroundings).

It will be interesting to find out the rap sheet of the killer. I suspect that he’s had 10 felony arrests and served a total of 3 years due to ‘overcrowding’.

Gotta love California.

There are no BART Police in Bart Stations- They actually are in their patrol cars riding around from station to station parking lots, CHECKING CARS - So they never know what is happening outside on the station sidewalk waiting areas itself, only in the parking lots. They never get out of their cars at BART Stations/That is why this is happening- There are no BART Police foot patrols at all. They are all chicken and prefer to ride around all day in their patrol cars and pretend to be regular cops. They are getting paid $100k per year to do nothing- A complete waste of taxpayers` money.
