That sounds pretty dangerous, firing into a closed container. If not for a .22, certainly for a larger caliber.

Nope, just blast the first hole. There is no problem. Done with an 556 with no problem.

That sounds pretty dangerous, firing into a closed container. If not for a .22, certainly for a larger caliber. It's not a "closed contaier". The intake on an oil fiter is the threaded hole. The outflow is through holes between the center hole and the gasket. Those holes aren't blocked.
