A representative from The Woodlands is vowing to file legislation that would make it illegal to enforce federal bans on semi-automatic weapons. Under Republican State Representative Steve Toth's "Firearms Protection Act," anyone trying to enforce federal gun bans could face felony charges.
Toth's announcement comes on the eve of President Barack Obama's unveiling of his initiative to fight gun violence. Some of the so-called concrete steps will address both gun control and mental health care. So how will Texas respond to the recommendations? ....
"What should we be doing to make sure that our children are safe and that we're reducing the incidence of gun violence," President Obama said on Monday.
The White House will release its plan to prevent gun violence Wednesday. On Tuesday afternoon, New York state passed its own measures.
Governor Rick Perry's solution doesn't involve limiting guns at all.
"Is the root cause because there are weapons in the United States? No, there have been weapons in the United States forever. But I would suggest that we need to be looking at this whole mental health issue instead of using the death of these young people to further a political cause," Gov. Perry told us.
If Perry's attention is focused on expanding mental health care in Texas -- it's not easy to find; he offered no new proposal -- funding for Texas mental health services was slashed two years ago and cut again in the budget plan released on Monday.
"It's tragic what we're doing to people," said Dr. Steven Schnee with the Mental Health & Mental Retardation Authority of Harris County
He directs the front line of mental health care for Harris County.
"Through the lack of resources, we end up criminalizing people with mental illness," Dr. Schnee said.

Look for A LOT of “civil disobedience” to take place.
No one is mentioning the very probable cause of mass killings by the young: the use of anti-depression drugs. Handing out more prescriptions for these mind-altering medications by inept medical practitioners will only worsen the problem.
Yesterday, the media was wailing about the suicide rate in the Army surpassing the number of troops killed in action. Hidden in the stats was the fact that the majority of the suicides were undergoing treatment for mental problems. Duh.
When TV ads for these medications warn agains “suicidal thoughts,” why in the world would doctors and the feckless FDA consider them safe?
Tinhorn dictators and despots quite often overestep and it results in their downfall! 0bama may have vastly overestimated the patience of the American public with his socialist agenda!
It is time to bring back the rule of law. States that support freedom need to pass Ninth and Tenth Amendment statutes that make it a felony for any federal, state, or local government official to attempt to enforce any federal law that is not specifically within the Enumerated Powers or any state law that violates the incorporation clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. We should not just defend the Second Amendment; we need to demand that the federal government retreat to the boundaries delineated in the Constitution.
I went to a doctor’s appointment at a military installation yesterday. Suffering flu symptoms and did not offer any additional complaints. Was surprised when the tech asked me if I felt safe at home, then followed up with whether I was harboring feelings of hurting myself or others. Probably just a prelude to the crap coming down the pike with ObamaCare.
I’m pretty sure obama doesn’t understand Texas. It’s not just a state, it’s a state of mind!

Actually, that has been a law on the books for decades. Pro counselors have to report someone giving the “wrong answer” to those questions to the authorities.
All you Texans need to call your own representatives and tell them to support Toth’s bill. He is in the process of filing it. Here is a link to the notice:

It has demanded us to deliver up our arms, which are essential to our defence, the rightful property of freemen, and formidable only to tyrannical governments.
THE RIGHTFUL PROPERTY OF FREEMEN! Even Texas understood it!
We don’t need any other rules or laws - the only law we need is the 2nd amendment to the US Constitution.
“A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
It’s pretty explicit.
Everything else is just folderol .
