According to one website I just saw, Walmart has 2,000,000 employees. This means they plan to increase their work force by 5 percent. Do they really need to add that many employees? I would think the prospect of the extra payroll costs would cause their stock value to go down.

Also - the announcement presumes 100,000 veterans available and willing to work for Walmart. Not sure there are that many out there. Sounds like a PR stunt to me.

At $7-$10 per hour there is enough attrition that they can hire another 100,000 without actually increasing number of employees.
