NEW YORK -- Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer and the nation's largest private employer, is making a pledge to hire every recently discharged veteran who wants a job.
The plan is set to be announced as part of an address delivered in New York on Tuesday at the annual retail industry convention by Bill Simon, president and CEO of Wal-Mart's namesake U.S. business.

They can manage this because they need extra staff to work 28-hour weeks to cover the hours cutbacks due to Obamacare.
Still, I like the idea of offering vets “head of the line” access for jobs.
This is a PR ploy to cover their ass for eliminating firearms sales in their stores.
...and conspire in instituting every one of Zero's illegal executive orders on guns.
Actually another of the programs to be fully announced today, aong with this, is about working to get more part time associates into full time positions.
I would bet my last dollar that this is exactly what WalMart is doing.
When did they eliminate firearms sales in their stores?
Because of the run on gun sales?
My Walmart in Mustang Oklahoma is still selling guns and ammunition (when in stock).
That’s exactly what they are doing, IMHO.

“Walmart responds to ‘suspended ammo’ story
The blogosphere has exploded with outrage in response to news that Walmart is suspending ammunition sales in anticipation of the Obama administrations gun-control recommendations to Congress but the retail giant tells WND the reports arent true.
That information is inaccurate, said Ashley Hardie, a spokeswoman located at Walmarts corporate headquarters in Bentonville, Ark.”

Walmart is still selling guns. I just got home from the local walmart and they have guns and ammo for sale. The corporate headquarters said they have NOT changed their policies and are selling firearms. I also called the Walmart Sporting Goods Mgr in Rogers, Arkansas and he said he has guns and ammo for sale.
HOORAY FOR WAL MART.!! If I wasn't so damn sick, I would go buy something from them..But it won't be ammo...They don't have any ammo left...
Thanks for the update!
Walmart is selling guns and ammo..it is a lie being spread on the internet by Investment Watch. LOOK..I just got home from Walmart and YES they sell guns and ammo. I called the stores in Arkansas near their headquarters and they are selling guns and ammo.
Bad enough the unions are after them and now the lie that they are not selling guns spreading. I wish folks would physically visit the supercenters sporting goods dept and find out the truth.
Good for them!
Thank you for your service. No you get to greet the masses at Wally World for minimum wage.
I know all of that - I just want the spreaders of that lie to prove their claims (they can’t) or stop spreading the lies (they won’t because they hate walmart)
Between this and the Bullets story, not sure what to think about Walmart anymore...
In some ways i feel they have become the “company store” for welfare recipients...
I agree.
As an added benefit, do you think our veterans might encourage people to buy products made in America?
Ya think?
Kudos to Walmart even though I rarely shop there...
You both nailed it!
Those will be some good hires.
And they’re almost all 2nd Ammendment supporters.
:-)
The 3rd leg of the proposals being announced today is increasing Made in America products in the stores.
any of you laid off soldiers out there who are hard working and free to relocate should follow the oil boom, east Texas or the Dakaotas !
They nailed nothing - WM has NOT stopped selling guns and ammo.
I’m wondering if Walmart is trying to position itself as the #1 gun retailer in America...
They might have missed the curve on that one. I’m gonna try to get to the gun show this weekend and see what’s happening, line will probably be out the door and around the block!
I saw on NBC news last night, a statement that Wal Mart had suspended sales of the AR-15.
Don’t know if its true...and its a pretty easy ploy for Wal Mart, to temporarily suspend sales, while they are out of stock anyway.
Wal Mart has gone way too liberal in recent years....and always had been more pro Communist Chinese than pro American. I just do not believe they will follow thru....considering they just now started this even though our veterans have been underemployed for years. I suspect this is more PR than reality
Speaking of oil boom.......some of the veterans and retired officer publications my dad gets....Canadian oil companies are actively seeking US vets to work the Tar Sands in Alberta. Seems that US military vets are quite desired by our northern neighbors...and have been so for years
.......yet.
I dont know where you live, but where I live Wal-mart pays 3 dollars above minumum wage to all new hires. They are the 2nd largest employer in my county.1st largest is Ohio University. There are almost no other jobs to speak of in this area, all the small shops already have the 3-4 employees they need. Why do you hate Wal-mart so much? They provide good paying jobs and low prices to help people stretch thier budget better. How many jobs and at what wage do you provide?
Not many vets dream of a low paying Walmart job.
I think just about everyone is out of stock.
If the claims they have stopped all weapon and ammo sales - do you for a minute think it would not be the lead story on every network and being crowed from the White House roof top?
So why continue to claim something has occurred - when it has not?
Lots of vets work in the local Wal Marts around here.
Better than no job.How many other companies are offering jobs? How many joba are you offering and at what wage?At least Wal-mart is trying to do something.
There is no talking to the anti-WM faction - even around here. Their minds are made up, do not confuse them with facts.
Wow...one report on one blog site that WM stopped selling amno and guns and scores of intelligent freepers fall for it like stooges...at some point you realize almost EVERYTHING on the internet needs to be verified....
Where did I claim that it has happened?
Check your facts, my FRiend.
I don’t know what our Walmart pays, but I was surprised to find out that they give bonuses. A woman from church worked at Walmart and commented that she was happy to see the influx of students this past September because she would get a bonus on the increased sales for the month.
I know that sometimes it was tight for her, but she managed to support her child and pay her rent, so she was making at least enough to do that.
Every one of these potential “hires” will be put through the “domestic terrorist” screen of the DHS (recall the white paper on this new ‘risk’ group). NO veteran should apply for this crap company. Sure, the healthcare will be from the VA, only one step below obamaomau care, for which they have gotten a waiver. This is a CRAP gesture.
God help our Veterans. And WE should.
You claimed another poster “nailed it” when claiming they eliminated the sales -— that is where I got it from.
As a conservative I shop at Walmart because of low prices and being non union, not because of welfare.
The left really, really hates Walmart.
Many conservatives are affected by the media and fall prey to their constant attacks on Walmart.
Also - the announcement presumes 100,000 veterans available and willing to work for Walmart. Not sure there are that many out there. Sounds like a PR stunt to me.
Any veteran who takes a job at Walmart after what they are doing with guns, will not be worth the title of “veteran”.
Are you foolishly uninformed, or do you simply play the role in discussion forums?
If I am not mistaken Walmart went public with assertions that any news story about them stopping gun sales or ammo was FALSE
Can someone help me out here?
What are you talking about? Cite your source.
I hate Walmart because I hate crowds and traffic (not to mention shopping and the Walmart clientelle). The jobs are great for high school students and reducing the dole for welfare rats, but the vets deserve better.
