For decades, ultrasound has had the power to convey the beauty and reality of human life before birth. Conveying that power, the London Daily Mail newspaper today reports on the story of a mother who rejected abortion and chose life for her baby after seeing him smile in an ultrasound.
Katyia Rowe was told her baby would never be able to walk or talk, but a real-time ultrasound scan showed him blowing bubbles and waving his arms, so she decided to go through with the birth. he died just 9 hours later, but she is very glad she chose life instead of abortion.
Despite the ordeal, Ms Rowe said she had no regrets going through with the birth as she was able to cuddle her baby son.
Katyia, 26, a training administrator, said: ‘We were devastated to be told our sons brain abnormalities were so severe they were life limiting we should consider a termination.
Further scans were arranged to asses the extent of his disabilities but when I saw him smiling and playing inside me I knew I couldn’t end his life.
‘If he could smile and play and feel then despite his disabilities he deserved to enjoy whatever life he had left, no matter how short. Just because his life would be shorter or different, didn’t mean he didn’t deserve to experience it.
As long as he was pain free I vowed to let him enjoy his life both while inside me and outside, no matter how long that be.
Miss Rowe, from Telford, Shropshire was thrilled to discover she was expecting a baby with partner of four years security officer Shane Johnson, 26, in March last year.
She added: It was a shock but we were thrilled. Shane and I were so excited and looking forward to the birth. We had so many plans for the future and could not wait to meet our baby.
While doctors often counsel mothers with disabled babies to have an abortion, Rowe said she focused on preparing for the potential birth of a baby with special needs.

ACLU and PLANNED PARENTHOOD are furious and planning a lawsuit agianst woman
Pretty soon we may just see soemthign liek that- especially considerign that the US wanted to adopt China’s 1 child policy
Wasn’t aware a “blob of tissue” could pull that off.
Obviously it’s a damn dirty Photoshop trick by the Vatican!
The little one is now in the arms of Jesus.
He sure is
Its funny how God, through nature and reality, puts a boot up the a$$ of the lies and confused “logic and reason” of libtards and moon bats at every turn.
Hey moon bats, gotcher unviable tissue mass right here!
The child was the definition of innocence. Thinking people know where he is now.
One more point: Stories like this renew my belief in the goodness of many people. I’m glad the parents went the way they went. It would have been so much easier and so much less heartbreaking had they gone the other way.
They didn’t take the “easy” road. Good for them.
Ironic that her name is Rowe. God blessed her and her son.
Praise God!
HOORAY mom!
You forgot the blurry screen alert!
[[With liberals, if it’s still in the womb, it’s tissue. It’s only a child when brought to full term and then “born”.]]
That’s true- howevber, there may coem a tiem when they will only ‘allow’ one child and will sue the parents IF they ATTEMPT to deliver after beign told to abort- and actuially liberals don’t even concder a born child a person as there are even post birth abortions done-
I think if ultrasound imaging was required in all prenatal counseling where abortion is considered, the number of abortions would drastically decrease.
I think prospective mothers deserve to KNOW what such images can show them and I think abortion advocates dom’t want them to see an ultrasound of their unborn child.
So many are so terribly confused thinking that convenience and material wealth are the two defining commodities of life. They are not. Love is the defining commodity of life. The birth and short time on earth of this precious baby, that they were able to share with love, enriched their lives beyond measure. They will always keep the memory of and love for their precious baby. They have obtained true wealth, that nothing can take away from them.
She added: It didn’t phase me at all. It was ironic because I had never considered myself particularly maternal but now I wanted nothing more than to care for my son and give him the best quality of life possible. I was more than happy to dedicate my life fully to his care.
I researched all his disabilities to prepare myself fully for his needs. I never had a moment of doubt. I only had to look at the scan pictures of him enjoying life in the womb to know I was doing the right thing by giving him a chance.
Not knowing how long he would live meant we were determined to enjoy him for as long as we could. We learned he loved the shower and would kick when I sprayed the water on my tummy.
As he grew bigger I could see his little feet and hands prodding through my bump when he wriggled. He may not have been born but he was already our son and I took each movement as a sign we had done the right thing.
I would talk to him and play him music because I wanted him to experience as much as possible.
God bless her for choosing life, albeit such a short one. Her baby awaits their reunion.
