DDD has been pointing this out too.
It will be a long time before I will get over all the ‘conservatives’ demanding that Bohner be the martyr by refusing to put a partial tax cut extension up for vote.
If those tax cuts were not extended the GOP would have got all the blame, Bohner being the focal point for raising taxes, and no-one in the House was willing to be that goat :
Bogus arguments I read on it:
1) A partial extension of tax cuts is raising our taxes
2) If all the taxes went up Republicans would have got the voters support on it and they would have blamed O for the tax increases
3) That if the final bill was scored as a tax increase (treats the GWB tax rates as the base line) then it increases the deficit rather than it cuts it.
The CBO score when they treated it as a tax increase cut the debt $737B over 10 years.
It only scored it as increasing deficits when the baseline was the HIGHER Clinton rates, meaning it was a tax cut.
Republicans will NEVER beat Dems with stuff like this
I suppose anything that humans do could be called "human nature."
If so, "human nature" seems to have changed since Reagan.
The demographics of the country have changed dramaticallly since then, as with the voters center, largely through immigration, but my analogy still applies.
Ahhh, but didnt Rush lecture us on how conservative the country is just a year ago or so?
Rush doesn’t consider the overriding fact.
The cities control the whole and the cities are not conservative. The cities are corrupt and with fraud and manipulation control outcome. Increasingly black control of cities by malleable corrupt politicos trumps the red elsewhere
You are thinking 20 years ago. Here in Maryland the Republican counties turned Democrat after huge numbers of legal immigrants moved here in the new housing built here from many hundreds of new housing developments.
I seen to remember the National Review types assuring us that legal immigrants are hard working and will vote R, well they are working but they are voting D here, and that means endless tax increases.
Yes, demographic changes are key to understanding what has happened. But saying something like "Voting is a more a matter of govt. goodies or pandering to my group's interests (women, gays, 'immigrants,' the 99%) than patriotism" is more accurate now than 30 years ago. So the greedy side of "human nature" is apparently more pronounced in those groups.
I would also note that the TARP happened under GWB, and people can see that there is something unfair about the FED/megabanks/crony capitalism sitting on top of the world while the rest of the economy suffers. (Note that I am not repeating O's argument about "the rich vs. the rest of us" but rather those who benefit, unfairly in my view, from being in bed with the govt. Unfortunately, too many see the "solution" to this, paradoxically, as more govt. See Sept. 2008 cartoon below.)
Ahhh, but didnt Rush lecture us on how conservative the country is just a year ago or so?
Rush and many others.
A beautiful dream, like the notion that democracy would produce pro-Western govts. in the middle east.
That has changed, but if GWB left office after 8 years with the economy booming and the deficit under control (or even just the first ) with controlled inflation then many of these new voters might have learned a different lesson from it.
TARP whether necessary or not for the economy would be a curse on Republicans trying to control the voters desires for goodies going out , this is one thing I easily predicted in Fall of 2008.
After that putting the genie back in the bottle by claiming O passed Tarp after he took it over would be impossible.
The R fools couldn't even get the Korean vote,
but dont worry, all those poor illegals given amnesty will go for tax cuts for the 2% and raising the age for medicare and SS, what could go wrong?
I’ve been saying it forever....you let in over 40 million LEGAL immigrants from poor, third world nations you become a poor, third world nation yourself. We are a left of center nation, period !
But they are all conservatives at heart I heard, they are just waiting till Rs support amnesty again and then they all will vote R.
No?
Worse part is that even those who are not poor and do work are voting Dem, like Asians. Something definitely wrong there.
You seem to be hiding from reality.
Obama is President with a eurocrat controlled senate.
The cities control national politics. The outlying areas have lost control to corruption
