OAKLAND -- Thieves smashed a window of a KTVU news van parked in West Oakland for an assignment Thursday and stole roughly $20,000 worth of laptops and other electronic equipment, the latest in a long string of heists against reporters and photographers.
--SNIP--
News photographers and reporters have been robbed and burglarized so many times since last spring that some stations are sending armed guards with media crews doing stories in Oakland.

What did they expect. It’s Oakland.
Redistribution of wealth. It’s cool.
Holder’s people, no doubt.
Nooooo...not in Oakland. That’s a hotbed of TEA party violence...Damn old people can’t behave themselves.
At least they left them the van...and it was not on fire.
Always a bright side.
All left-wing agenda driven, all the time, and THIS is how they’re treated??? How about showing a little GRATITUDE???!!!/s;)
Somehow I am having a hard time sympathizing with the liberal MSM when their stuff is stolen in non white neighborhoods. Hating Whitey is not lucrative
It will continue to get worse as California is on a course to turbo charge its efforts keep guns away from it’s law abiding citizens.
Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch, IMHO. ;)
Just declare all news vans as gun free zones.
Armed guards...no, you don’t mean those ruthless men with the gun thingies that have those horrible assault magazines that slaughter innocent people do you? I can’t believe that the news media could be so heartless. No one really needs guards. These are the very people that have taught us the principles of entitlement and distribution. What do we need to protect? Those poor people must have computers, cameras, and equipment, so they can feel a part of this great society. Just leave the doors open, good grief!/s
Red on red. Good.
Al Jazeera US needed to equip their satellite office in CA.
So funny .... criminals gotta eat too you know!!! A little redistribution goes a long way in the Obama world.
“What did they expect. Its Oakland.”
Really; around Newark NJ (not just in the city, but also along bus routes connected to, and anywhere within walking distance of the city itself) nobody would even leave that much stuff in a vehicle (you can’t even leave $.62 in change visible in your console).
Car insurance companies shouldn’t even cover cars in these toilets (as they don’t in Mexico, but they do in Canada).
Yeah, I'm really broken up about it.
Maybe if they had encountered some "knockout game", we'd actually see some reporting about it, vs the constant spiking of those types of stories.
FOAD, journalists!
