We have choice. We are not subjects of a king and we have will and choice. No one owns us.
We do not take orders from a king. We agree to obey laws and help make them. It is not rude to decline any invitation as a citizen. No one is compelled to perform in this country. So far there is no king..."
Exactly. I have only so much respect for the office of the president, no matter who is occupying it. After all, that person is a public citizen SERVANT, not someone who is automatically and mysteriously elevated above us all. At the moment, my respect for the office is at absolute zero, and I would have no problem declining an invitation from Obama. In fact, I would take distinct pleasure in doing so.
Where did I first read this? On FR? (I have it taped to my computer)
“Presidents are stewards of this country.
It is not their task to remake it in their own image.
It is not the task of a politician to remake America.
It is not their right to remake this nation — to reflect their psychology.”
