A popular textbook used by institutions and teachers to teach English as a second language has been found to have a disturbing anti-Israel undertone.
The textbook contains a map of the Middle East, labelling and identifying the countries displayed and presenting it as part of an exercise for a Jordanian student at Greenhill College. The map however, leaves off the label of Israel, instead replacing it with the words Occupied Palestine.
The book, Skills in English: Writing Level 1 is utilized by teachers across the United Kingdom and further afield. The Duke of Edinburgh ESU English Language Award judges called the book extremely well-planned and constructed and very impressive.

Garbage, absolute garbage. The socialists that run Britain are anti-semites. And their Islamist allies are, well.....
Pure 1984 Orwell.
The book in question had this error in its first edition ten years ago, and it was corrected in the second edition. The story is years out of date. It is certainly something that should not have happened, but it was dealt with a long time ago. Somebody has found an old textbook and has resurrected the story.
Why is anti-Israelism and anti-Semitism so prevalent in the UK? Anybody know?
Later on, it took in Jews, but these were assimilated heavily -- so they looked and acted English. At the same time of course they assimilated the Welsh and Scottish into the English way.
But this was all, let's call it the "milder form of prejudice" -- they roundly rejected any form of violence against Jews in the 1920s by the British Blackshirts etc
This anti- is more correctly termed as anti-Israel. Israel was a british mandate until a violent uprising by the Israelies
Now there is the media sense which talks about how the Isralis are "oppressing" the "poor Palestinians"
I don't understand it either -- the Palestinians who accept living in Israel are living good lives, and those outside it can easily live in Jordan or Egypt or SAudia...

It isnt.
Dont be fooled by stories like this, the British have never been an antisemitic people, any that does exist has been a very small minority of either knuckle dragging working class or upper class. The British, be it Mosley in the 30’s or the BNP now, have rejected naked antisemitics and relegated them to the fringes.
Dont confuse leftist pro-palestinianism and antiisraelism with anti-semitism, OR that the majority of British people support said virulent leftism. Frankly, most Brits and Irish are sick of the Isr-Pal conflict. if anything they are completely apathetic. NOT antisemitic. Remember, empty vessels make the biggest noise. A lot of UK leftist attacks on Israel does NOT mean that the UK people are antiisrael.
Many of our most beloved entertainers, writers, academics, businessmen and some of our most iconic cultural icons have been Jewish. And proudly so. And British Jewishness is a celebrated important culture. In fact, just last year, the BBC, ITV, CH4 and CH5 all ran their own documentary series about British Jews. From London to Manchester, from Jewish law to Jewish food.
Thats the US equivalent of having NBC, CBS, ABC and Fox all running series at the same time devoted to American Judaism.
The East End/Golders Green British Jewish man with his overbearing wife and mother, is as well known and beloved British stereotype as the tough guy Glaswegian, the wheeler dealer Cockney or the quick witted Liverpudlian ‘scouser’......
Anyone here who claims the UK is an antisemitic country is talking crap. The UK is no more antisemitic than the US.
The UK and England are not the same.
England did not assimilate the Scots, as we joined the UK, we were not conquered by England.
Oh dear, looks like this ‘British’ textbook isnt British at all......
