Hockey? What’s that?
Hockey’s the best sport in North America.
The League is living on borrowed time as long as the Loonie is near par with the US$.
Recall only a few years ago, Canadian teams were not financially competitive with US team’s salaries etc.
RODNEY DANGERFIELD: “I went to the fights the other night and a hockey game broke out!”
Lots of money lost by Concessionaires, people who work the ice, set up the stadium, sell tickets, even people who clean the stadium, people who don’t get big salaries and got hurt by the strike. How do they make up for their loss?
In order to survive the NHL is going to have to admit that it is a regional niche sport. They need to to go to a 12 team league: EAST- Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa, WEST - Detroit, Chicago, Minneapolis, Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton. Divvy up the best players amongst 12 teams and you have a hell of a quality league.
Crosby spoke at length about his sympathy for what fans have gone through during the lockout, which lasted nearly four months. NHL fans missed the 2004-05 season, which was lost because of a lockout.
He hopes they will remain loyal to the Penguins and the league.
Hopefully everyone comes back, Crosby said. I understand people are frustrated. Its more than understandable for people to be frustrated. I dont blame them at all. I just hope everyone is excited by the news and by the idea of hockey being back. Im sure there are a lot of happy people out there, but I understand there are those who are frustrated and discouraged. I understand it. I get that. I just hope they can find it in themselves to come back and support us. Their support means an awful lot to us.
What a ridiculous article written by a little liberal pleeb who knows nothing about business. Blames it all on the owners, even in a sport where many franchises struggle financially, going into more bad ecnomic years. What a maroon.
And FTR, his gratuitous shot at the Carolina Hurricanes shows ignorance too. For a small market franchise, 1 Cup and 3 conference finals in 10 year time frame ain’t too shabby.
The league gets my money. Last year it was Penguins, Blue Jackets and Coyotes. This year year I’ll try to visit another arena.
Looking forward to seeing -
*Sidney Crosby be his usual great self even with less than optimal wings.
*Hope to see Brandon Saad make the Chicago BlackHawks team.
*Want to see the LA Kings which is my Stanley Cup favorite. Let the games begin!
Forgiving doesnt allow you to hold it over the heads of the offenders. This guy is a snark
Gotta say it...
“Let’s go Rangers...clap clap clap-clap-clap”
Shameless hockey ping!
If any of you get a chance to look, I will be attending the only outdoor hockey game this year, in Hershey, watching the Penguins and Bears play. Even though I’m a Bears season ticket holder, I’ll be rocking my Penguins gear!
